Alicia P. is a jewelry designer and fine artist currently working in New York City.  Her works & creations bring a fresh originality to the world of art and design. Under her label Designs by Alicia P, she has developed a way to blend her couture work with her skill as a visual artist.

Alicia has had an interest in the arts since her childhood, participating in a number of art apprenticeship programs, where she began to develop a unique style of painting and love for design of all kinds.  Raised in Chicago by both her African American mother and Jewish American father, Alicia has been exposed to the best of both cultures; sparking a great fascination with the world around her.  After receiving a B.A. from Rutgers University for both Anthropology and Fine Arts, Alicia began to combine her artistic talents and interests. 

The diversity in her upbringing and exposure to world provides Alicia the inspiration to create couture jewelry that often integrates found materials and semi-precious stones, provided by both the earth and community. Each of Alicia’s hand made, one of a kind pieces of jewelry, creates a visual experience for each individual client.   These pieces, often described as mini sculptures, are a direct result of constant and continual practice of techniques developed by Alicia P. herself.

Her jewelry design work is built upon a foundation of visual art and Alicia’s style is recognizable throughout all her mediums.  Her paintings and wall hangings often mimic the shapes and contours of her jewelry.  Regularly working with large format oil paintings, the intricacies of her jewelry designs come out as powerful detailed visions of the world around us. Her suede leather craftsmanship has also been integrated into her visual art creating a distinctive style of wall hangings that range in size, style, and emotion. Alicia’s success as a designer stems from her experience and continuous work as a visual artist.

Currently, Alicia is maintaining the rapidly growing business.  She recently opened a store at the Dekalb Market in Brooklyn, NY.   Her work has been featured in a number of fashion and media outlets, from feature films (Tyler Perry’s ‘Good Deeds’) to print publications (The New York Times, the Fader, to name a few).  Her couture jewelry is carried in boutiques in New York City & nationwide, and she works with a number of private clients and fashion stylists. *Special Note on Materials:  

Alicia P’s unique product line is based on the use sustainable materials, primarily goat suede which is imported from India. The Suede is a byproduct of the cultural reverence of Cows in India and a commitment to utilizing the entirety of animals from the food industry. Alicia’s work is further representative of her sustainable values by using a majority of found materials and organic items harvested from beaches and mountain tops around the world.
